It’s been a busy few months at St Augustine’s.
In September, we started another Alpha Course, this time led by Steve, Richard and Glynis who have all done Alpha here in the past few years. We also started 2 new courses –‘Parentalk’ which is for parents of primary school age children, and ‘The Bereavement Journey’. Both of these use material provided by Care for the Family.
Our third Messy Church of the year was another great success. Following on from the sessions in March and June – ‘Who is God?’ and ‘Who is Jesus?’ – our theme this time was ‘Who is the Holy Spirit?’ and included an hour or so of activities learning about the theme, a short period of worship and then a meal for everyone. Through these events on Saturday afternoons, we have connected with many new families.
We celebrated Harvest the next day which included a fellowship lunch and we held a Newcomers lunch the following Sunday. We also welcomed newcomers to our ministry team, Amy and Matt Key, who have been appointed as pioneer ministers through the Inspiring Ipswich project. Amy is our new curate and Matt is an ordinand in his final year of training.
Into October, and we began with a confirmation service at our Encounter service with Bishop Sandy Millar and then on the 12th we welcomed Bishop Mike for the ordination of Amy as a deacon. Matt will be ordained next year.
Finally, on the 27th, it was time to say goodbye to Trevor and Lois on their last day with us as they move on to St Mark’s Church, Tollington in north London. At our morning services and at a special service in the afternoon, we had a chance to reflect on and thank them for all that they have done here over the past 6 and a half years, to look ahead to building on the foundation they have laid, and blessing them as they begin their new venture. We will miss them greatly. We ended the day with a party with a hog roast and a disco in the church by our resident DJ Rev Ian!
And now there’s just a short time to draw breath in November before our Christmas events kick off in December! We are busy preparing for our Christingle service on Sunday 1st December, Carols by Candlelight on Sunday 15th and of course the Crib Service on Christmas Eve.
We will also be out and about with Carols on the Green at Broke Hall on Saturday 7th and Carols on Queensway Rec on Sunday 8th. And look out for the Puppets who will be performing some great Christmas songs at Sainsburys.
We look forward to seeing you!
